Classroom of Hope Indonesia
Tanjung 5 Primary School is located in a remote farming village in the Tanjung district of North Lombok, Indonesia. Most families in the community make their living from farming, so living standards are generally low. The school’s six original classrooms were destroyed in the 2018 earthquakes, along with its staff room and other buildings. In the wake of the disaster, a temporary building was constructed on the site, and the government later provided five permanent classrooms and a staff room. One class was still operating in the temporary building, which provided poor light and ventilation. This created difficult and uncomfortable learning conditions for the students and teachers in this class and was an unsightly reminder to the community of the 2018 disaster. The school needed an additional classroom.
SDN 5 Tanjung Block School consists of a fully furnished classroom fitted with lights, fans, and power points and fully furnished with desks and chairs, whiteboards, a filing cabinet, and a storage cupboard. This permanent structure provides a safe and motivating learning environment for the students and teachers. Parents will feel comfortable knowing that the Block School is earthquake-resistant, which will encourage them to allow their children to pursue education. The construction of the new building emphasises the importance of education to the whole community and provides an incentive for the children to complete their primary education.
