Rempek Village, North Lombok, Indonesia
Classroom of Hope Indonesia
Rempek 1 Primary School is located in a small farming village that was badly hit by the earthquakes of 2018, when all of the school’s buildings were destroyed. The government constructed six replacement classrooms for the school. However, these did not provide adequate space for all of its students, with numbers being very high in most classes. Students were attending classes in overcrowded classrooms, creating conditions that were unconducive to learning. The school was in need of two new classrooms and also four new toilets.
SDN 1 Rempek Block School consists of two fully furnished classrooms fitted with lights, fans, and power points and fully furnished with desks and chairs, whiteboards, a filing cabinet, and a storage cupboard. Four new Block Toilets have also been built at the school to ensure improve sanitation standards and prevent hygiene related illnesses. The construction of the new building and toilets emphasises the importance of education to the whole community and provides an incentive for the children to complete their primary education. These permanent structures provide a safe and motivating learning environment for the students. Parents will feel comfortable knowing that the Block School and Block Toilets are earthquake-resistant, which will encourage them to allow their children to pursue education.
