Phnum Leab Primary School
Phnum Leab Primary School currently serves 652 students (324 boys and 328 girls) aged 5 to 12, and employs 23 teachers (11 males and 12 females). The school has four buildings; one is a one-room library, one remains in good condition, and the other two are deteriorated, unsafe, and in dire need of removal. In these two buildings, the wooden structures were rotting, had holes in the walls, were infested with termites and could have collapsed without warning. These circumstances led to an uninspiring learning and teaching experience for both the students and teachers. To address this problem, our implementing partner constructed one new concrete building with six fully-furnished classrooms to give the students and teachers a school building that is safe, comfortable, and conducive to effective and enjoyable learning. The project also included the construction of six new toilets that will allow for better sanitation practices and will prevent hygiene-related illnesses.
"A school building is not only providing access to a secure learning environment for children but also contributing to the long-term development of individuals and society."
