About Deichou Akpivath Primary School
Deichou Akpivath Primary School is located in Deichou Akpivath Village and was established in 2009. The current population of the school is 426 students (232 boys and 194 girls) ranging in age from six to twelve years old with a total of 12 teachers (6 males and 6 females). The first official school building was erected by the community in 2011 out of wood and zinc sheet metal housing two classrooms. By 2013, more students were enrolling and a second building with one classroom was added. Years of exposure to the harsh Cambodian weather degraded the structural materials and over time both buildings became an unsafe environment for both the students and teachers. In 2015, Child’s Dream intervened and replaced both buildings with a high quality school building containing five classrooms which remains in very good condition today. In 2019, classrooms began overflowing with students once again forcing the community to build another temporary building with two classrooms as a quick fix to the problem. The summer heat and torrential downpours of the Cambodian seasons proved to be too much for a transitional structure leaving the students and teachers in dire need of a quality school building. With a student population continually expanding and limited space at the school, the community and their school were desperately in need of more room to safely learn, teach and thrive. This urgent and dire situation was a call to action and Child’s Dream intervened once again, successfully providing a solution by constructing one fully-furnished school building with four classrooms. The construction of the new school building encourages the students to fully participate in their schooling and will emphasize the importance of education to the whole community. Replacing the makeshift building with a new quality building creates a positive, safe and encouraging space to learn, grow and develop for both students and teachers.
"A school building is not only providing access to a secure learning environment for children but also contributing to the long-term development of individuals and society."
