About Block Home #4 - Jumangse Family Home
Pak Jumangse lives with his wife and teenage daughter in Kuta Village, Central Lombok, Indonesia. Kuta is traditionally a fishing and farming village, but in recent years tourism has rapidly expanded in the area, with the construction of the nearby MotoGP circuit and Mandalika tourism precinct. Pak Jumangse’s home has been in a dilapidated state for years and was further damaged by the 2018 earthquakes.
Classroom of Hope Indonesia recently constructed a new 36m2 Block home for Pak Jumangse and his family, using recycled plastic blocks from Block Solutions. The home comprises a simple kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living area, and is complete with plumbing and electrical cabling. A local building contractor and his team completed the home in less than two weeks, often working into the night to complete the family’s new home as quickly as possible.
"Rebuilding homes that were affected by the earthquake in Lombok in 2018 is an extraordinary thing. Rebuilding these homes using bricks from recycled plastic waste and making them a quality, environmentally friendly, safe and earthquake-resistant learning place is a miracle."
