We thought you might want to know what’s happening in Gitumba.

Marcelline Hakuzimana is in the afternoon class at Kukobhero. She is doing chores for her family in the morning, but will make the one hour walk to the school soon. When asked about the new classroom, she replied "it will be very good because the school is so close, only ten minutes" If she does the morning class, she says "we have to wake up very early to get to school" It takes her 40 - 60 minutes to reach Kukobhero, depending on conditions. Marcelline is in primary 5, and her favourite subject at school is Kinyarwandan and Maths. She like the teaching kits for maths.

Remember the school blueprint plans we shared with you in August?

The building plans for Classroom of Hope's Child Friendly Classrooms.

Since then, 25 local workers have been building Gitumba Primary School.

Progress on the new Classrooms can clearly be seen.

The school is expected to be complete early 2017.

The new classrooms at Gitumba are progressing well, and should be finished in a month.

Which means that when Theresie Mukankusi’s kindergarten class is ready for primary school next year they won’t have to journey to the next village to get there.

Theresie Mukankusi kindergarten class will never have to face a one walk each way to school once they are ready for primary school. The new classroom built by Classroom of Hope means that there is now room for them all at newarby Gitumba.

It also means that students like Marcelline, who currently walk the long journey to school, won’t have to anymore. They will have access to quality education in their own village.
