To our incredible Classroom of Hope community –
We have an exciting milestone to share with you!
We have always believed in the power of collective effort, and today we are humbled to share a testament to that belief. For the first time in our nearly 11-year journey, Classroom of Hope has surpassed the $1 million mark of donations in a single financial year!
This milestone isn’t just about the number; it symbolizes trust and commitment from our donors, and the shared vision of thousands who believe in the transformative power of education and sustainable building.
Check out the video below from Tanya Armstrong, Classroom of Hope’s CEO to see the official announcement of this achievement!

“Hi, everyone. My name is Tanya, and I’m the CEO of Classroom of Hope. I wanted to share some exciting news with you – that for the first time in our ten year history, we’ve surpassed the million dollar milestone. That means, thanks to your generosity, we received over a million dollars in donations last financial year.
It’s a testament to this incredible community and the strength of this organization. So, firstly, I want to say thank you to Duncan and Nicola, our founders who built this incredible organization. Secondly, and most importantly, thank you to all of you! Whether it’s been a small donation, or as a member of the Block (our monthly giving program), or a large donation, or sharing words of encouragement with us, or sharing our mission with others, you guys are the heart and soul of Classroom of Hope and that’s what keeps us motivated every day.
In the last year, those donations meant that we built over 40 Block classrooms and 20 Block toilets for communities in need. By using sustainable materials such as the Blocks which are made using recycled plastic waste, we’re contributing to creating a sustainable future and building classrooms that are safe for children to learn in, toilets and wash stations for improved sanitation in developing countries, and Block Homes for families in need.
So, thank you once again for your incredible support! Your belief in Classroom of Hope has helped bring us this far. But our work doesn’t end here. We want to celebrate this milestone with you. But there’s more work to be done and we can’t wait to keep growing with you.”
Tanya’s message underscores our immense gratitude to our donors, as well as the collective spirit that has made this achievement possible. This achievement is thanks to ALL of our supporters – major donors and foundations, corporate donors, fundraising teams, members of The Block monthly giving community, individual donors, and all those who have helped us spread the word about Classroom of Hope and our Block initiatives in Lombok, Indonesia. (Read more about all the different ways to contribute to Classroom of Hope here).
Every contribution, whether big or small, has had a profound impact, translating into tangible outcomes for communities in need.
With these incredible resources garnered over the last year, we’ve made huge strides in our Block Schools and Block Homes initiatives! These donations and support from our partners allowed us to fund the building of more than 12 different Block Schools across Lombok – all of which were constructed and completed just in the past financial year (July 2022 – June 2023)!
- SDN 1 Medana (July 2022)
- SDN 6 Sokong (July 2022)
- SDN 1 Sokong (July 2022)
- SDN 5 Pemenang Timur (February 2023)

By using recycled plastic waste from our partners at Block Solutions to build all of these structures, we’re not only providing safe learning environments but also championing a cleaner, greener future!
Moving into the Future
As excited as we are about the success of the past year, it’s important to remember that reaching the $1 million mark is far from the end of our journey. It’s a significant milestone, indeed, but it also serves as a reminder of the vastness of our mission ahead!
As Tanya points out, the work doesn’t end here. We still have a long way to go towards our goal of constructing 200 Block Schools and 4000 Block Homes in Lombok to assist in the recovery from the 2018 earthquakes. These endeavors don’t just represent numbers; they symbolize hope, resilience, and the promise of a brighter future for countless children and families.
To all our supporters: Your unwavering belief in Classroom of Hope’s mission has brought us to this pivotal moment. As we celebrate this milestone, we also look forward with optimism and determination. Together, we’re not just building schools and homes; we’re crafting a legacy of hope, education, and sustainable growth.
Thank you for being a part of this remarkable journey. We’re excited for the next chapter, and with your continued support, we know the best is yet to come!
With gratitude,
The Classroom of Hope Team
