BUILDING A SUSTAINBLE TOMORROW

OUR VISION

We envision a clean world where every child thrives in safe, uplifting schools.

OUR MISSION

Classroom of Hope builds schools using recycled materials in developing nations because everyone deserves access to quality education and a cleaner planet.

LETTER FROM OUR CEO

To our valued supporters,

As the newly appointed CEO of Classroom of Hope, I am honoured to join this remarkable organisation that has been making an impact since it was founded in 2012. I am inspired by the journey that our Founders, Duncan and Nicola, have been on to evolve Classroom of Hope to become the strong organisation that it is today. Their steadfast dedication to serving our beneficiaries, mostly children in developing nations, is driven by the belief that every child deserves access to quality education and a clean environment.  And I couldn’t agree more.

For a small organisation, Classroom of Hope has been making a big impact for children and families for many years. And now that impact has spread to improving sustainability and the environment. Our disaster relief program of work in Lombok following the 2018 earthquakes is well underway, having now built 52 earthquake resistant, recycled plastic block classrooms and 20 block toilets. This work would not have been possible without the leadership and support from Jimmy Hutasoit and the Classroom of Hope Indonesia staff. I want to say a special thanks to the whole team including Rachael, Satria and Marlin for their tireless work in bringing to life our block schools program in Lombok. We have at least 300 more classrooms to build until we finish what was started in 2021 when the team built the first Block Solutions block school at Taman Sari.

As we begin to look beyond our work in Lombok and plan for the future, we have discovered a high need in other remote Indonesian Islands. Next year, with our new implementing partner, the local Yayasan Happy Hearts Indonesia, we will replicate our program and scale it more broadly into the NTB and NTT regions of Indonesia – to Flores, to Sumba and beyond. Access to education in these more remote areas remains a significant challenge and building safe and sustainable block schools can change the life trajectory for thousands of children – pathways to further education, pathways to employment, opportunities to thrive. The modular design and our well-developed operating model make scaling out this program possible. We are also aiming to build Cambodia’s first block school in 2024.

Being early adopters to proven sustainable products had become part of the fabric of our organisation. We care about access to education for children, but we also deeply care about our contribution to a sustainable future by using environmentally positive building materials. We are looking at extending our sustainable materials to roofing and other building materials. Wherever we can find low environmental impact products locally, we will push to use them.

The new year brings exciting things for Classroom of Hope and I want to take this opportunity to thank the whole team – our Founders, our Board, our staff team, our contractors, our volunteers, and of course our local implementing partners who provide the local knowledge and insight and support the ongoing sustainability of our programs.

Real stories...

UNSTOPPABLE
FORCES

THE BLOCK

The Block is a passionate group of monthly givers determined to end the education crisis while cleaning up plastic waste from the environment. It’s a community of people giving what they can and proving that when we work together, we can do anything!

Partnerships

We work with incredibly generous organisations that choose to support Classroom of Hope. They stand by us in countless ways— from raising awareness, to hosting fundraising events to generously funding school buildings and education programs.

Principals

The Principals are a community of philanthropists, business leaders, and entrepreneurs who help to support our operations so that we can focus on our mission while building a sustainable organisation. Our Principals provide more than financial support. They are part of our Classroom of Hope family, our loyal friends, and champions of our work.

Fundraisers

Our fundraisers have done some pretty amazing things to raise money for education and for our planet. And they’re thinking of new things to do every day. Fundraisers have donated their birthdays, organised bake sales, cycled from Alberta to Alaska and back, and so much more—all to raise money for education and a cleaner planet!
